We regularly feature the people behind the businesses at Milford Waterfront. We speak to everyone from artists and chefs to personal trainers to learn about their special skills and talents, their favourite dishes/items for sale, what they enjoy most about working at Milford Waterfront and lots more!
This month we speak to Gwen Reeves, the Owner of Talouies, a coffee shop that opened last summer specialising in mouth-watering cakes and desserts, light bites, an ever-changing specials menu, and regular pop-up themed nights such as Mexican, Grill and Seafood. We love that they are dog friendly too!
What is the best thing about working at Milford Waterfront?
I love the location, the marina is such a beautiful setting and on a warm day it feels like you could be anywhere in the world! It’s such a “foodie” destination now too, it’s great to be a part of it at this time as its only going to get better when the new developments are complete.
Is there anything people should know about Talouies that they may not know?
You may already know as we like to tell everyone that we are dog friendly! We love nothing more than serving coffee and cake to our customers, and fussing over their four legged friends that come along for the trip.
All of our cakes are homemade by myself and I love seeing our customers enjoying a slice of cake with their friends or family.
Finally, we are very proud of our specials menu. Our chef works hard to create new dishes each week, as well as keeping the firm favourites that our regulars have enjoyed.
Have you got any special skills or talents?
Not personally, unless you count being able to chat… a lot 😊
I think Stani is exceptional at all things artistic and her beautiful handwriting and themed drawings on the chalkboards are proudly displayed!
What is your favourite item at Talouies and why?
My favourite dish would have to be one of two specials that we have offered. Firstly, the fish finger sandwich is incredible! Secondly, I recently discovered ‘Formaggio Fritto’ which is deep fried mozzarella and brie on a bed of spinach with cranberry sauce…. I love it so much that I’ve insisted it stays on our full menu!
What has been your favourite day at work and why?
It has to be any one of the warm sunny days during the summer season, enjoying the company of the friends we’ve made in our few months of being open. There is nothing better than sitting outside alongside the boats with a chilled drink and watching the world go by.
