On Wednesday 3rd July at 4.30pm, Discover Coast & Cleddau's rib boat MV Discovery will depart from Milford Haven for the annual Beating of the Bounds ceremony in Haverfordwest.
The Mayor and Admiral of the Port will host the civic tradition of the Beating of the Bounds, as part of the town’s Festival Week celebrations.
The Beating of the Bounds is an annual service which witnesses the Mayor of the town and the Admiral of the Port of Haverfordwest, travelling in a water-borne procession to the White Stone at the town’s riverside boundary to exercise the rights of fishery.
The ceremony’s roots go back to the medieval times when parishes reaffirmed their boundaries by processing round them and stopping to beat each boundary mark and to pray for protection and blessings for the land.
In a flotilla of small crafts, several boats head downstream to secure the bounds for another year, before returning for festivities and presentations on the quayside by the Bristol Trader.
Come and join in the festivities, our boat MV Discovery departs from Milford Haven at 4.30pm where it will cruise gently up to the Bristol Trader.
There will be approximately an hour stop in Haverfordwest before the ceremony begins at 6.15pm. We should arrive back in Milford Haven at approximately 7.30pm.
