The fishing boat represents Milford Haven's past, and as one of the UK’s largest fishing ports it remains a huge part of its present, looking ahead to a future of renewable plus a wonderful tourist destination. Learn more about all these elements and more.

The fishing boat represents Milford Haven’s past. On the 28th of September 1888 the steam trawler “Sybil” was the first trawler to enter Milford Docks. This led the way for Milford Haven to become one of the largest fishing ports in the UK. Throughout the first half of the twentieth century Milford residents boasted that ‘each week day was a pay day’ as the fishermen spent their income in the town.

As one of the deepest natural harbours in the world, it is a busy shipping port. The Port of Milford Haven is the UK's largest energy port, capable of delivering 30% of the UK’s gas demand. The waterway serves Valero oil refinery and oil terminal, Puma Energy, South Hook LNG and Dragon LNG.

Along with all these industries linked to Milford Haven’s Waterway, there is a new dawn of the tourism industry on the rise. The waterway is ideal for many leisure activities including sailing, water skiing, boat trips and personal speed boats with a magnificent Marina to moor up in. The marina is home to a wide range of restaurants, bars and unique shops which make the perfect weekend getaway. With the arrival of a new hotel on the marina in 2022 the area is an up-and-coming destination.

So, there is a definite change in Milford Haven not just being an historic industrial town but also a town for tourism and for the future.
